A New Generation of Wine Lovers
Why More Younger Wine Lovers Are Finding Their Way to Martin Ranch Winery
Not every wine tasting experience needs to feel formal, crowded, or rushed.
Tucked away down Redwood Retreat Road in the eastern foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains, Martin Ranch Winery has quietly become the kind of place people discover through friends, weekend drives, and afternoons that turn into a few extra hours at the ranch.
More and more younger wine lovers are looking for experiences that feel authentic, welcoming, and easy to enjoy — good wine, beautiful views, outdoor spaces, live music, and time together without the pressure or pace of a busy tasting room. That’s exactly what many visitors find when they arrive at Martin Ranch Winery.
Redwood Retreat Road
The drive itself feels like part of the experience. Winding through the canyon roads outside Gilroy, the scenery slowly changes as vineyards, oak trees, gardens, and open skies begin to replace the noise of the city. By the time guests arrive at the ranch, the atmosphere feels worlds away from Silicon Valley — while still being close enough for an easy day trip.
Weekends at the winery are designed to feel social and approachable. Guests gather around tasting tables with friends, bring picnics, listen to live music, enjoy seasonal food pairings, or simply spend the afternoon sharing a bottle beside the vineyards and pond. No two weekends feel exactly the same.
The winery has also been introducing new tasting experiences that go beyond traditional pours, including wine and cheese pairings, cupcake pairings, wood fired pizza afternoons, live music weekends, sushi dinners, and special seasonal events throughout the year.
At the center of it all are winemakers Thérèse and Dan Martin, who have spent nearly three decades building a family owned winery rooted in hospitality, community, and handcrafted wines from the Santa Cruz Mountains, Santa Clara Valley, and Arroyo Seco regions.
For many first time visitors, Martin Ranch Winery becomes the kind of place they return to again and again — not only for the wines, but for the experience of slowing down, gathering with friends, and spending time somewhere that still feels genuine.
Open for wine tasting the first and third weekends of each month · Fri–Sat–Sun · 12–5 PM.
