HARVEST 2012 - PART 2
Harvest is winding down around the Martin Ranch Winery and what a whirlwind it's been! Despite some adversity from Mother Nature, it was a harvest full of exceptional quality and abundance. Our crew just finished picking our Estate Grapes, it was a beautiful crop and was not compromised by the rain we had a couple of weeks ago. As we put a close to this year's harvest, we ended up bringing in about 100 tons of fruit from the various appellations - Arroyo Seco, Santa Clara Valley and the Santa Cruz Mountains.
Yes, the 2012 vintage will be the best we've had since 2007.

he Martin Ranch winery produces an excellent Sauvignon Blanc wine, the J.D. Hurley 2009 Santa Clara Valley Sauvignon Blanc. The grapes are grown in the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains, this delightful and refreshing wine is made with 99% Sauvignon Blanc grapes and 1% Semillion grapes to give a very slight hint of sweetness to this dry, crisp wine. BOTTLING TRUCK ARRIVES
A couple of weeks ago, we bottled over 1100 cases of Therese Vineyards 2006 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon and J.D. Hurley Santa Cruz Mountain Cabernet. To handle the bottling with this many cases, we always bring in our favorite mobile bottling truck from Bay Area Bottling. The company is a small family-owned wine bottling service that provides personalized bottling services throughout the Santa Cruz Mountains and Monterey area. The guys who drive the truck and operate the inner workings, are very efficient and fun to work with. We had several of the Martin Ranch Winery team and friends help out with the many chores of the bottling process and we were able to complete the day with a smooth operation and many laughs.

Throughout the summer months, the Chardonnay II offers Winemaker Sails. This is a chance for people to enjoy sailing aboard a beautiful 70 ft luxury yacht, enjoy the coastline of the Monterey Bay, sample local wines and meet the Winemakers.
Fall weather has been beautiful in the Santa Cruz Mountains. The harvesting of grapes that were delayed due to mid-Octobers rains are now steadily coming in. The Martins are pressing out juice from Syrah grapes and making room for harvest of the Estate Cabernet grapes soon to be coming in.
